The region consists of the six Romanian counties of Alba, Brașov, Covasna, Harghita, Mureș and Sibiu. It includes the part of the country also known as Transylvania or Transylvania. The well-known cities in this region include Alba Iuli (German: Karlsburg), Brașov (German: Kronstadt) and Sibiu (German: Hermannstadt).
The gross domestic product is 65.4% of the EU average and, at EUR 9,900 per capita, is one of the highest GDPs in Romania.
In contrast to Romania as a whole, which has seen a population decline (emigration) of 4.88 % from 2011 to 2021, this is far better than the national trend in central Romania, at 2.54 %.
Urbanisation is 57 %, slightly above the Romanian average.
Central Romania is an economically strong region whose development we also see as positive in the coming years.
