The region consists of the six Romanian counties of Brăila, Buzău, Constanța, Galați, Tulcea and Vrancea. It covers the north-eastern part of the country and is located on the external border with Moldova and Ukraine. Well-known cities in this region include Constanța and Galați.
The gross domestic product is 58% of the EU average and, at EUR 8,700 per capita, corresponds to Romania's median GDP.
In contrast to Romania as a whole, which recorded a population decline (emigration) of 4.88 % between 2011 and 2021, this is far worse than the national trend in south-eastern Romania, at 8.33 %.
Urbanisation is below the Romanian average at 53 %.
Southeast Romania is an economically very weak region for which we cannot make any recommendation.
