The region consists of the seven Romanian counties of Argeș, Călărași, Dâmbovița, Giurgiu, Ialomița, Prahova and Teleorman. It covers the southern part of the country and is located on the external border with Bulgaria. Well-known cities in this region include Ploiești and Târgoviște.
The gross domestic product is ? % of the EU average and, at EUR 8,100 per capita, is one of the lowest GDPs in Romania.
In contrast to Romania as a whole, which has a population decline (emigration) of 4.88% from 2011 to 2021, this is much worse than the national trend in Southwest Romania, at 9.35%.
Urbanisation is 39.3%, the lowest in Romania.
South Romania is an economically very weak region for which we cannot make any recommendation.
